Slipknot percussionist M. Shawn Crahan has confirmed that the band will tour the U.S. next June, and implied that the band has plans to write new material.
Crahan stated via Facebook, “I also wanted to tell everyone straight from my mouth because you may have heard it already anyway, but Slipknot will be touring by next June in America only, but that does not mean things will not change and as they do I will along with others tell you our family first. No album yet because it is to soon and there are no songs yet because the band needs to come together to write this next one. I can not wait to feel the ideas like choking on color. Everything happens for a reason, so be ready.”
Slipknot is currently planning a U.S. tour. Dates and details are to be announced.
Slipknot returned to the stage today for the first time since the death of bassist Paul Gray, performing at Sonisphere in Athens, Greece.
The band marked its return wearing red jumpsuits and masks from its self-titled album, with Gray’s jumpsuit standing at the back of the stage.
“As you know, tonight is a very emotional show for us but it is not, NOT, a negative day,” vocalist Corey Taylor told the crowd. “It is a positive day. A day for celebration. This is our first show – with you.”
Slipknot has tapped Donnie Steele, the band’s original guitarist, to handle bass duties for the late Paul Gray on upcoming shows this year.
“Donnie was in the band at the very beginning,” the band commented in a statement released today, “and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul’s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer.”
