Slayer frontman Tom Araya reportedly was hospitalized overnight in Australia, following the band’s first performance on this year’s Soundwave festival.
The band has been forced to cancel its February 27 date in Sydney.
Details on Araya’s condition have yet to be released.
Slayer has tapped Gary Holt of Exodus to fill in on immediate tour dates for guitarist Jeff Hanneman who is recovering from surgery.
Hanneman underwent immediate surgery in late January after contracting a serious infection on his right arm. He was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, also known as flesh-eating disease.

The band will call on a guest guitarist to replace Hanneman on its upcoming Soundwave dates, set to kick off on February 26.
Hanneman is currently at home undergoing medical treatment, and is expected to make a full recovery.
