Opeth’s Akerfeldt Gives Update on ‘God of War’ EP

Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth recently checked in with an update on the band’s upcoming appearance on the “God of War: Blood & Metal” EP due out in March. Akerfeldt commented:

“I just finished and approved the mastering of a new song I wrote called ‘The throat of Winter’. I wrote it for that game, “God of war” that we’re supposed to be included in, or however that works. Is it a digital album? I don’t know how that shit works, but it’s done anyways. Hell, I’m still with my turntables (got 3 of them) and right now I’m playing a Aussie original of “High voltage” by AC/DC.”

“Song is very odd, it’s good I think, or for my taste it is, but even I can understand it’s very….odd! Produced and recorded it from scratch and I’m happy with the sound if I may say so myself. Fred laid down a killer acoustic solo and Per laid down an amazing twiddly tweet moog solo. It’s not a very metal song, I’m saving up for that..later…..yet it’s got a metal “mentality”, or what I remember metal used to do to me. I can feel it, even though it’s not a “metal” song per definition. Anyways, if you hear it I hope you like it.”

Opeth bus accident suicide attempt by at-fault driver

According to Opeth vocalist/guitarist Mikael Akerfeldt, the band’s recent bus crash turns out to be a suicide attempt by the at-fault driver. Akerfeldt posted the following statement on his Myspace:

I just got a text from Mendez who saying that the driver of the other car (who made the U-turn) that our bus crashed into, sadly passed away from his injuries. On top of that it seems as if it was a deliberate death-stunt from his side as the police had found a suicide-letter in the car-wreck.

This is just getting more odd and scary I tell ya.

I’ve no idea who he was but I have to say our condoleances goes out to his family and loved ones anyways either though we don’t have a name at this point.

I’m kinda lost for words here.

Opeth involved in bus crash

Opeth have been involved in bus crash, according to Bravewords.com. Vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt has issued the following statement:

“Myself, Axe, Fredrik and our soundman, Pontus Norgren decided to fly home to our families for a few days as the option would have been 3 days off in Brussels.

Now I hear that our bus apparently crashed into this other car making a unexpected U-turn in the middle of the highway. Mendez and Per were on the bus together with the rest of our crew but nobody got hurt. They are however shocked and very shaken of course. The driver in the other car was critically injured. I’ve not heard back from anyone yet regarding his progress but apparently it’s not looking very good. Hoping for the best however.

I don’t know where or when this happened but I know the bus was heading from Dublin to Brussels.”
