Farewell, THE SAFETY FIRE

by | Jul 16, 2015

This is a bummer: After over a decade of being a band, The Safety Fire have officially called it quits.

The band formed in the early 2000s in the UK under the name Omega Child, and later changed their moniker to The Safety Fire. Since then they’ve released two full-length albums — Grind the Ocean and Mouth of Swords — and played hundreds of shows, touring with bands like Protest The Hero, Between The Buried And Me, Gojira, and many others.

I was under the impression that they were writing a new album late last year — so not sure what happened there. It doesn’t even look like they’ll be doing any farewell shows. Nonetheless, I wish them the best of luck and “fuck The Safety Fire.”

PS. Here’s a really cool interview I did a couple years ago with guitarist Derya “Dez” Nagle. He talks about some early shows he went to growing up, and gives insight into how he creates stuff.

When Æges frontman Kemble Walters played in Juliette and the Licks, he did a few studio sessions with Dave Grohl. “[Grohl] draws this picture and gives it to the runner there. ‘I want you to buy all these parts,'” he says imitating Grohl’s...
