The Safety Fire Interview: Derya “Dez” Nagle on Setting the Music Scene Ablaze

by | Oct 20, 2013

Just weeks before The Safety Fire’s sophomore album, Mouth Of Swords, came out in September, guitarist Derya “Dez” Nagle was involved in a cycling accident and had to undergo surgery. “Few weeks of rest and all will be well,” he said back in late July about the incident.

Those few weeks of rest may have been the only ones he’s gotten over the past two years. Since the band’s debut record, Grind The Ocean, was released in early 2012 it’s been constant touring around the globe, sharing the stage with bands like Protest The Hero, Periphery, Gojira, and countless others. Right now The Safety Fire’s finishing up the remaining dates of their current North American trek with Between the Buried and Me and The Faceless; and in January they’ll head out again with Protest The Hero – this time in their native European homeland.

Today as we chat outside the House of Blues in Hollywood, Nagle tells us some never-heard-before stories, and how a few extra scars won’t stop The Safety Fire from setting things ablaze.
